Why we need to fight human trafficking today to restore our human value.

It involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit people for labor or commercial sex. Traffickers often target vulnerable individuals, including children, women, and migrants.

Who are Traffickers ?

“Traffickers are not always strangers. People are always trafficked by someone they know; such as family members, friends, husbands, fiancees, and relations.” As defined by the Nigeria Conference of Women Religious (NCWR) Anti-Human Trafficking Network in partnership with Conrad N. Hilton Foundation (Awgu/ Aguleri Area) Onitsha Province.

Some Agents of Human Trafficking are:

  • Some Sports Club, Some brothel owners, some Bar Owners.
  • There is also direct recruitment where agents are paid to have direct contact with the prospective victims and deceive them with job opportunities, education or sports.

  5. Poor living conditions

  7. Inability to communicate freely
  8. Receipt of unusual or excessive payments

What Must we do? According to NCWR:

  • Pray for trafficked people, pray for an end to human trafficking.
  • Make ourselves familiar with how traffickers operate
  • Educate yourself and learn more about human trafficking locally and globally
  • Talk to your friends, colleagues and family members about this issue
  • Check out the genuineness of job offers before committing yourself
  • Be alert to what is happening in your environment.
  • Report suspicious cases of human trafficking to relevant authorities.
  • Do not keep any secret from your family members regarding traveling abroad when promised. Become anti-trafficking lobbyist.
  • Support anti-trafficking organizations.
  • Advocate for policy changes.
  • Volunteer with local initiatives

Make Poverty History. Learn Skills and be self employed. Some people are of the opinion that only poor people are trafficked. Educated and rich people have also been trafficked. NCWR.
