The family of Onuogu of Umuezediukwa kindred, in Umuezeiyi village, Achina, honored their mother, late Ezinne Mercy Onyebuahum Onuogu (Nee: Okpalaibekwe of Isi-Achina).

May 2nd 1935, Mercy Onyebuahum was born to the family of Nze Joseph Zembegbu & Lolo Bessie Akumualo Okpalaibekwe (Nee: Azike).

She shared this set of parents with four siblings, of which Sir Edwin”Edlex” Okpalaibekwe is now the only surviving one.

She had a soft heart for Edlex.

She accepted Christ early in life. And she grew up within the salvation Army church ministry at Akpo/Achina where her father was one of the founding lead Ministers.

Her education was truncated by early marriage to Mr Shedrack Ekesiobi Onuogu in 1957. And they were blessed with Nine (9) Children.

Business

Blessed with natural beauty and creativity, she started her first business as a beautician in Zaria, Kaduna State; Sewing, beautifying and preparing new brides for marriages alongside her provision store.

Mama, her husband, and few others in 1969 saw to the planting of All Saints Anglican Church Achina.

During her life time, she also served God through many ministries that included:

St. Michael’s Anglican in Zaria, Christ Anglican Church Achina, St. Luke’s Anglican Church Enugu, St. James Anglican Church Iva Valley Enugu and St. Emmanuel Anglican Church Akwunanaw-Enugu.

More also, she served last at Our Lord the Savior Anglican Church Enugu.

And she was member of the Grandmothers ministry at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Anglican Church in Houston Texas during her times in the united States.

After The Nigeria Civil War

Haven spent most of her time in Enugu, She was popularly known as “Mama Tochukwu in the “Ọdu-Utaba” at Ọgbọ-Ete Main Market Enugu.

However, Mama was very intelligent, creative, independent, fearless, out-spoken, fluent, successful, sociable gorgeous woman.

She was popularly known and called by her admirers: “Sample Umu-agbara.”

Children: Her seven surviving children/Sons and daughter in-laws are:

Mike/Nonye, Uche Charles/Oby, Florence Chizoba, Okey/Ifeoma, Tochukwu, Amobi/Emem, Kene/Ifenyinwa, and Fortune Onyeabo Ike.

On behalf of the entire All saints faithful, we write to commiserate with you Sir Engr. Mike Onuogu and the entire Onuogu family on the passing unto Glory/eternity of your beloved mother, sister, our mother Ezinne late Mrs. Mercy Onyebuahum Onuogu (A.K.A sample).

Mama Mercy was such a lovely, homely, and experienced woman, who enjoyed sharing her experience and helping anyone who wanted to learn some of the skills she exhibited.

She was so brave, strong, determined and focused. She has gone to meet with thy Lord…

We urge you to take heart while having the knowledge that Mama’s life on earth was a useful one.

It is also our earnest desire that the Almighty God will comfort and grant the entire family the grace and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
